OPI and Park People Movie Night Brings Family FUN

Anticipation, fun and excitement are the best ways to describe our first successful movie in the park event at Centennial Park. There was live music, games, prizes and to top it off, the Lego Movie! Everywhere you looked, there were smiling families and new friends being made.

The event began with the amazing music of Rockadoodle Duo, who played everything from classic to modern rock. Starting at 7 pm, kids enjoyed games (with hula hoops!) organized by the City of Toronto Parks and Recreations staff.  Raffles, free draws and of course, snacks were also in the mix.

Finally, when the sun went down, The Lego Movie was ready to begin! Delight, smiles and laughter were nonstop during the onscreen adventures of Emmet.

Throughout the evening, we at Our Place Initiative (OPI) - Friends of Centennial Park had the pleasure of meeting local families and individuals. OPI is a grassroots non-profit that builds community engagement in Etobicoke. Earlier this year we created our Friends of Centennial Park group to help support, maintain and revitalize Etobicoke’s largest park. We’ve received great input from  local residents on the  movie night and what else they’d like to see us do in the community.  Big thanks to everyone that came out and we welcome any future comments over email or social media.

Finally, our movie in the park would not have been possible without the partnership of Park People. They were great to work with and we hope to team up with them again!
